Welcome to the Scarborough Symphony Orchestra website.

As the Patron of Scarborough Symphony Orchestra, I am delighted to welcome you to another season of superb music making by a really enthusiastic group of musicians. This season they are playing a wonderful mix of the well-known, a UK premiere and great music which doesn’t in my opinion get played frequently enough!

In November they will be welcoming Michael Petrov, a Young Classical Artists Trust performer, to play the Shostakovich cello concerto. Michael was nominated by the Barbican as ECHO (European Concert Hall Organisation) Rising Star in 2015, and has performed widely in Europe. Dvorak’s 8th symphony will close this concert.

In February, they are performing works on the GCSE and A level music curriculum syllabus; Vivaldi’s Four Seasons (with Dania Alzapiedi), Haydn’s Clock Symphony and Kodaly’s variations on a Hungarian Folksong, "The Peacock".This is a wonderful opportunity for music students to hear these works in a live performance, and don’t forget students have free entry to all the concerts.

The May concert includes the UK premiere of Martin Romberg’s The Tales of Taliesin for Saxophone, played by Lara James, and ballet suites by Ravel and Tchaikovsky.

In the final concert of the season, in July, local flautist Kathy Seabrook will play the popular Nielsen Flute Concerto. The concert starts with Beethoven's Egmont overture and concludes with Tchaikovsky’s melodic 5th Symphony.

Full details of all the concerts are to be found on our Current Season page

I do hope you will join me for what promises to be another exciting season.
