Kathy Seabrook flute

Beethoven - Egmont Overture
Nielsen - Flute Concerto
Tchaikovsky - Symphony No.5

To close our season we will perform three popular classics.
Popular local flautist, Kathy Seabrook, joins us to perform Carl
Nielsen’s Concerto for Flute and Orchestra. Written in 1926, the
concerto has become a standard of the flute repertoire. Look out
for the brash interruptions by the bass trombone!
We open our concert with Beethoven’s evergreen overture,
Egmont. The overture and nine incidental pieces were written
for a play by Goethe. Dramatic, heroic music to the fore in
Beethoven’s own, inimitable style.
We close our season with Tchaikovsky’s most popular symphony,
his Fifth. Composed in 1888, the work perfectly demonstrates
Tchaikovsky’s ability to conjure and develop some of the most
memorable melodies of all time. Come and bask in the glorious
hues of this wonderful work.
