From Russia, With Love

Yuki Negishi piano - Please note that this is a change to the advertised soloist.

Mosolov - The Iron Foundry
Rachmaninov - Piano Concerto No.2.
Mussorgsky - Pictures at an Exhibition

Our final concert opens with a work little known in this country - Mosolov's The Iron Foundry. Written in 1926/7, it became his most famous composition. Moso!ov uses the orchestra to create machine-like sounds by using short overlapping phrases, vividly imitating the workings of a factory.

Our soloist is the pianist Yuki Negishi who will be performing perhaps the most popular piano concerto in the repertoire, Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No.2

The final work is Mussorgsky's most famous composition, Pictures at an Exhibition. The individual movements depict the paintings and sketches of Mussorgsky's friend, Vladimir Hartmann. We will be performing Ravel's arrangement of this great piano work.
